This great blue heron greeted us right outside Sue & Glen's back window just about as soon as we got to their house at Lake Weiss, Alabama.

When we got back to the lake house, there was a large *flock* of anhinga's - ducklike birds that swim with most of their body submerged, just their head and neck above water - we had never seen more than one or two at a time anywhere!
